Copper Shallow Water Diving Helmet with Amazing Character
Over the years I've owned many diving helmets. The only examples that still hold my interest are pieces
that were home made with character. This one is amazing and very tribal! It was built from scratch in copper and looks as if it's wearing
a baseball cap... The whole feel is unique with hand shaped and hammered details. It has a sculptural presence to it that's unique.
Note the handle borrowed from an early Coal Scuttle. These were usually constructed for or by freelance divers that could never afford
a costly production model. I have a lot of respect for the makers ingenuity. It's a perfect example of Industrial Folk/Outsider Art.
