Just lay back... this won't hurt a bit. The contraption you are looking at is a Zenith 1920s articulating Chiropractors table.
It has all the mechanical components that make a piece of furniture like this so interesting. It's austere and ornate at the same time.
The leavers, slides, foot pedals and gears are it's functioning decoration. It's definitely not a Le Corbusier Lounge or a Victorian Velvet Chaise...
but it does find it's place somewhere in between. We left this example as found. The patina was perfect.
